Some equipment you may encounter during your adventures is randomized. This

random equipment, or "random eq," is auto-generated with a unique set of
stats.
You may glean some information from its description, but other details may 
require skills or spells to determine, and the stats on two such items with

identical descriptions may not be the same.

You can usually recognize equipment of this type by its name being in the 
format:

MATERIAL ITEM_TYPE

or for magical items:

MATERIAL ITEM_TYPE of ATTRIBUTE

So a "wood broadsword" or a "steel breastplate of stamina" are often, but
not
always, random eq. 

Monsters who wear or wield random eq items will often use different
equipment 
each time they appear, so it can be good to check back if you're looking
for 
something different. However, their gear will always be appropriate to
their 
skills, world, class, gender, alignment, race and so forth. You thus will 
never find heavy armor or weapons, for example, on a monk, nor a unicorn
with 
a sword or a Wysoomian woman wearing Soselian menswear.
